Biography

Living in Torquay provides inspiration from the beautiful natural environment for landscape painting.


I have always been drawing and painting. Landscapes and seascapes became an irresistable challenge after learning more about composition, perspective, colour and technique.

I have explored working in many artists’ mediums and now use oil paint on canvas most often.

 

Nature has always been a dominant source of inspiration and subject matter. A fascination with waters’ aesthetics features in many paintings. I am drawn to dramatic surf beaches and snow covered mountains as a destination for recreational activities in natural wilderness environments.

 

I traveled to Europe for two months in 1995, just after finishing High School, to visit many art galleries and museums. I then studied a Bachelor of Visual Art at the University of South Australia in Adelaide, and completed this in 1999. Subjects focused on were Photography, Sculpture and Life Painting. A comprehensive understanding of Colour Theory and Perspective was attained and this has provided a solid foundation for creating technically accurate paintings. I was also able to explore a wide range of other artistic disciplines during this time.

 

My painting is informed by photography and filtered by my personal perceptions of the location. The results sit somewhere between accurate representation and subjective interpretation.
